Frequently asked questions - Nanotechnology Sealant

Question:
What is nanotechnology ?

Answer:
The word ‘nano’ comes from the Greek language and means ‘midget’. One nm (short for nanometre) equals one millionth of a millimeter.

The scale of a nano molecule compared to a football is the same as the football compared to the world.
The scale of a nano molecule compared to a football is the same as the ball compared to the world.

Nanotechnology relates to the production, research and use of extremely small structures. The nanometre scale is the scale of single atoms and tiny molecules. One nanometre represents about 4 to 6 atoms. Particles on a nano scale, so called nano particles, or polymers (smaller than 100nm) are the building blocks of this technology. The ability to utilise materials on the atomic level and the use of the unique phenomena that occur on that small scale, give a huge amount of possibilities for almost every field, for example energy and conservation technology, IT business, medicine and pharmaceutical industries. On an atomic level, there are no borders between chemistry, biology and physics. It all comes together into interdisciplinary technology, that means no demarcation for lots of branches.

Nanotechnology is setting a trend for the future decades and opens new markets.

Question:
How can I prevent any spots ?

Answer:
Spots, which appear immediately after sealing and drying, can be removed through washing with clear water.

Up

Question:
Can I remove a nano sealant ?

Answer:
Yes, all products will be removed by mechanical wear, but this is more difficult with concrete & flooring sealants.

Up

Question:
Is the sealant harmless to skin ?

Answer:
Nano sealants have been tested by an independent institute and were designated to be harmless to skin.

Up

Question:
Are the nano products harmful to health ?

Answer:
When used as specified, there are no known problems. However, children should be kept away from the products.

Up

Question:
Are there different ways of applying sealants ?

Answer:
Yes, it depends on the surface to be treated. Some products can be applied by hand, e.g. car glass and nano multi foam. Others need to be applied by using a spray pump, e.g. wood & stone.

Up

Question:
Do Percenta nano products emit any pollutants ?

Answer:
No, except products that contain isopropyl, which is an acohol. Most of our products are water based.

Up

Question:
Can an outdoor surface be sealed in the winter ?

Answer:
Yes, if completely dry and the surface is at least 4° Celsius (39° Fahrenheit).

Up

Question:
Does the sealant prevent the adhesion of algae ?

Answer:
Depending on the stone and position, algae adhesion can be decreased or stopped.

Up

Question:
What is the durability of Percenta nano products ?

Answer:
This depends on the surface to be sealed. Please read the link to facts about nanotechnology sealants.

Question:
What needs to be done if the coating has been damaged ?

Answer:
In the case of damaged coatings, simply treat them again.

Up

Question:
Does frost or heat do any damage to the sealed surfaces ?

Answer:
The nano sealant is absolutely frost and temperature resistant.

Up

Question:
Do any pollutants get into the water when nano products wear off ?

Answer:
No. For example, glass & ceramic sealants can ideally be used in aquariums.

Up

Question:
How can I seal large surfaces – by hand or by using a spraying pistol ?

Answer:
It doesn’t matter which way the sealant is applied. Around the house the best thing to use is a sprayer and polish the surfaces with the included cloths afterwards.

Question:
The repellency effect has faded away or decreased – what do I need to do ?

Answer:
After several washings, the repellency effect on textiles can decrease. In this case the textiles can be sealed again. Sometimes remains of washing agents can adhere to the textiles, which interrupts repellency. When the textiles have been treated with a strong washing powder, the repellence ability disappears, but the fibre protection remains. Through washing again with clear water and drying afterwards, the repellency ability will be re-produced.

Before applying a sealant, wash the textiles only with water to remove any washing agents remains.

The repellency ability can decrease through contaminants. In this case simply clean the surface with a mild cleaner and wash thoroughly. The repellency ability will then be re-produced. If the repellency ability cannot be re-produced, it can be a sign of a damaged surface.

Question:
Can I apply nano products on surfaces that have been sealed with other products ?

Answer:
Yes, but the surfaces should be pre-cleaned thoroughly. The surface to be treated has to be clean, dry and grease free.
